A flight in a hot air balloon is an experience to try at least once in a lifetime. The thrill of takeoff, the feeling of being carried by the wind, and the flow of the landscape below will leave you with lasting memories.
Hot air ballooning is a year-round activity suitable for everyone. No special training is required, you just need to be over 120 cm tall and in good health. The only restrictions are for pregnant women and those with lower limbs mobility issues.
Before takeoff, the balloon is inflated by igniting the burner located underneath it. After a quick briefing together with the pilot, you finally climb aboard, ready to take flight.
A hot air balloon ride takes about an hour. The path cannot be predicted exactly, as it depends on the wind trajectory, making each flight a unique experience. The pilot can only change the course vertically, and with knowledge of the winds, he is able to determine the best landing spot. Once landed, it is tradition to end the experience with a toast.

The Paestum Balloon Festival usually lasts for a week. During this period, the “balloon village” hosts exhibition stalls of local products, children’s play areas and street performers.
The event program includes numerous activities for both free and tethered flights, making it in effect a true hot air balloon festival.
With tethered rides, the hot air balloon is anchored to the ground through the use of a rope, an option suitable even for the faint of heart.
The 2018 and 2019 editions of the Paestum Hot Air Balloon Festival hosted more than 30 thousand participants, making Paestum home to one of the most important international hot air balloon festivals.
For the first time since the project’s creation, the Paestum 2020 edition of the hot air balloon festival was canceled due to the health emergency caused by the Coronavirus.
Flights over Paestum take place in two modes. The traditional flight allows you to reserve a seat on board up to the capacity limit, at a price of 210 euros per person.
Private flying is a more exclusive experience that allows you to fly only in the company of your loved one or your closest friends. A private flight can be arranged at a cost of 840 euros. After booking, an in-flight toast or tasting option can be added to the package for an extra fee.

It was an exciting flight, but I expected the guide to offer more services (e.g. a go-pro to rent, some photos taken from down below in the balloon, a description of the sites flown over); landing in random locations, and expressing concerns about the currents, did not reassure me, on the contrary

Fantastic experience, spectacular view, magical atmosphere, a little less so having to close the balloon and place it on the truck at the end of the journey and getting all sweaty.
