Piancavallo is a fraction of the municipality of Aviano, in the province of Pordenone. Located in a valley on the eastern slope from the Monte Cavallo (2,251 m), it was the first Italian resort to be equipped with a system for artificial snowmaking. The skiing tradition here has ancient and solid roots and is carried on with passion by the schools and instructors who offer their skills to anyone who wants to learn to ski or improve their technique. The Piancavallo ski area offers 17 km of downhill slopes, 15 km of cross-country ski trails, 6 ski lifts and 8 conveyor belts. Thanks to snowmaking, it is possible to ski for the entire season in ideal conditions. The area also features a snow tubing track, a bobsled on rails, an ice rink for field hockey and skating, and a playground for young children.
There are also several snowshoe and ski touring routes in the surrounding area. In short, from the most traditional to the most innovative and playful disciplines, winter sports are right at home in Piancavallo. To fully enjoy the snow, however, you cannot give up a full-speed descent down the pristine slopes. Learning to ski, therefore, is the first thing to do!
Group classes or private lessons for individuals or mini-groups can be taken in Piancavallo. The main difference is that in the former case you take classes with other participants, while in the latter you have the teacher at your complete disposal. Although private lessons are the fastest and most effective way to learn how to ski, in group courses the fun and social aspect can make all the difference, especially for children, who will learn a lot from comparing themselves with their peers.
Of course, the choice also depends on how much time you have. Group courses last an average of one week. If you are in the mountains for less time, then private lessons are definitely more suitable because they allow full immersion and a definitely more precise focus on your goals.
Skiing is an ideal sport for children; in fact, it is even better to start at a young age. This way, unwarranted fears are avoided and time is given to make skiing such a natural act to carry on for a lifetime. Children’s ski courses and lessons are based on a playful approach that allows them to learn while playing, having fun and socializing with peers. The minimum age to start wearing skis is, on average, 4 years old.
For a ski lesson with a private instructor in Piancavallo you spend 40/45€ per hour, with the possibility of a discount if you buy packages of several lessons. In fact, private lessons can be conducted on an individual basis or in small groups of 2 to 4 people of the same level.
