Diving: everything you need to know before a dive

The term diving refers to scuba diving with an oxygen tank, performed at a minimum depth of 5 meters. To dive, it is necessary to take a specific course and obtain the Open Water Diver certification. However, almost all diving centers offer guided introductory dives, even for first-time divers.

Scuba diving is aimed at observing the seascape, life forms and wrecks lying on the seabed. Depth is chosen according to the divers’ level and marine conditions. A depth of 20-30 meters is considered easy, while experienced divers can go into sea pits of hundreds of meters.

Diving La Maddalena: the best underwater sites to explore

The Maddalena Archipelago is a reference point for diving in Sardinia. The numerous dive spots provide breathtaking scenery. Moreover, being a protected marine park, La Maddalena is a treasure trove of rich and unspoiled biodiversity.

The main diving spots are located near the island of Caprera and between the islands of Spargi and Budelli. Diving sites are easily accessible from La Maddalena Island or from Palau, Cannigione, Santa Teresa di Gallura or Porto Cervo. Starting from the same locations, you can approach Corsica and reach the Strait of Bonifacio. Here, the Lavezzi Island Nature Reserve offers at least a dozen diving spots.

Scuba diving at La Maddalena takes place at an average depth of 20 to 40 meters. The Archipelago enjoys a location that offers calm seas and almost always favorable conditions for diving. On the seabed, it is possible to observe expanses of Neptune grass and Red algae, sea fan formations, and rock walls that serve as dens for numerous species of fish.

How much does it cost to dive in La Maddalena?

Prices for a diving trip to La Maddalena depend on the starting location and the distance traveled to the dive site. To get an idea, a single dive departing from Palau costs about €75 per person. The price for a double dive starting from Cannigione is €120. These rates do not include equipment, which can be rented separately at the diving center. For a beginner’s diving experience without a certification, on the other hand, you will spend about €130 per person. All necessary equipment is included in this case.
