Snowshoes: what they are and how to use them

Snowshoes are a type of footwear that you attach to the base of hiking boots and allow you to walk nimbly on the snow, without sinking, thanks to the metal crampons underneath. They are easy to use and suitable for everyone and can be a great alternative to skiing, both for those who do not know how to ski but also for those who want to take a break from the slopes and enjoy the quieter, more intimate side of the mountains.

For those who do not own personal snowshoes, it is possible to rent them, at one of the many points used just for snowshoe rental in Pila.

A snowshoe hike in Pila allows you to experience the magic of snow while walking on pristine white expanses among forests with a fairy-tale atmosphere. One of the most beautiful and interesting snowshoe trails in Pila is the one that leads toward the Grivel Alp, and then climbs further to the Grimmondet Alp. The route allows snowshoeing with views of Mont Blanc and other 4,000 peaks.

In all cases, breathtaking scenery is guaranteed, and with a little luck, wildlife such as chamois, hares, squirrels, and foxes can also be spotted.

Organized tours with expert guides: how much do they cost?

Valentine's Day Snowshoeing

Wonderful experience! Today's snowshoe hike in the Pila area was really great! The guide Giovanni was fantastic: prepared and engaging, he made us experience the mountains in an authentic way and with a smile. The route was beautiful, surrounded by nature. We had a lot of fun and we loved it: an experience that we absolutely recommend to anyone who wants to enjoy the mountains in a different way. To be repeated! 🏔️✨

Snowshoeing in Pila

Sunny day, very nice and fun experience in the snow. No mishaps, just my friend's snowshoe that kept coming off and a few slips for the inexperienced on the only downhill section of the route!

As a first experience...

As a first experience with snowshoes it went great, in addition to the rental included it was useful to have the presence of the guide to understand how this winter activity works. Most of the time we "snowshoed" on the beaten road so a basic level and a few kilometres on fresh snow very enjoyable ! A thank you to the 2 guides ( one for each group ) To be repeated !

A beautiful Sunday snowshoeing 😃

Guide Giovanni helpful and attentive to everyone's needs. For me it was quite tiring, even if it is presented as easy, but in fact we are not all trained and there are some good climbs that require all your energy 😅 However, doing this hike is worth it and if you are lucky like us to find a nice sunny day the view of the landscape is wonderful. If I can give 2 pieces of advice: - give a time limit for the arrival after which you lose the trip - make 2 groups to give the possibility to those who feel like continuing to the top and those who do not feel like going back to the base.

Great experience. ...

Great experience. For me and my husband this was our first experience. It was fun and not difficult for beginners. Our guide Giovanni was great too. He even gave us some information about Pila and it's surroundings. We truely recommend.
