Although at first glance they might appear to be the same thing, canoeing and kayaking are actually two different sports.
A paddle is utilized in both, but while canoeing makes use of a single-blade paddle, kayaking employs a double-blade paddle. This involves a different technique for maintaining direction and a different posture on board.
The two boats have different shapes and characteristics: the kayak is lighter and more agile than the canoe, but the canoe is more stable and can facilitate beginners.
Not everyone knows that Milan was once a city rich in waterways. Today, most of these canals have been buried and covered with asphalt, but some sections remain in daylight. We are talking about the famous Navigli canals that, starting from the center of Milan, go for miles and miles into the Lombardy countryside: an ideal trail for canoe or kayak tours in Milan.
Starting from the Darsena, it is possible to venture from the city center to the open countryside, leaving behind the chaos of the metropolis and rediscovering the fascinating beauty of the surrounding nature.
There are also numerous sports clubs offering canoe or kayak courses in Milan, both in the Navigli and Idroscalo areas. A way to learn how to paddle on your doorstep and then be ready to venture out on more complex routes, perhaps in the mountains.
A simple kayak or canoe tour in Milan costs around 25 or 30 euros per person. It is a different matter if you want to take an actual kayaking course. In this case, given also the longer duration of the activity, prices start from 60 euros for an introductory course.

Beautiful experience on the Ticino! The area is really beautiful and the kayak tour was relaxing and fun. Our guide, Alberto, was exceptional: friendly, knowledgeable and very attentive. He told us interesting facts about the area, gave us clear explanations about kayaking and always made me feel safe, even though I was a bit scared at first. He also took beautiful photos! Despite some initial problems with the booking, they went out of their way to help us. Highly recommended!

The guide gave us a brief training on the canoe we were about to use and how to make the right turns, then led us along a beautiful nature trail. We also had a chance to swim in the river on a small beach. At the end of the tour, we were then taken back to our starting point (and our cars) by a minibus. At the end of the tour, we were also sent photos that we had taken together. A great experience! The route was long but not at all tiring, with mostly quiet sections :)
