Favignana is the main island of the Egadi Archipelago, located at the western end of Sicily, between Marsala e Trapani. Also called "Egadi's butterfly" because of its shape, Favignana is a renowned tourist destination, known for its natural bays and for the crystal-clear waters.

A boat tour is the best way to visit this pearl of the Mediterranean, perhaps even stopping at the nearby island of Levanzo. The boat trips to Favignana allow you to tour the island, stopping at the most beautiful coves and disembarking for a visit of the picturesque fishing village.

Favignana boat tour: exploring the main isle of the Egadi Islands

A boat trip to Favignana takes a full day and involves a complete tour of the island plus a stop to visit the village. One after the other, you’ll get to visit all the most beautiful coves in the area: Cala Rossa, with its fine, clear sandy beach; Bue Marino, with its historic tuff quarries; Cala Azzurra and its very clear seabed; and Cala Rotonda with its striking rock arch. You’ll be able to stop at each of these bays to enjoy a swim.

It is virtually impossible to resist the urge to take a dip and snorkel in the clear waters.

Toward the middle of the day, the boat tours include a stop for a couple of hours in the town center of the island of Favignana. Here you can get around on foot or rent bikes or scooters to reach panoramic spots amid unspoiled nature. We also recommend a visit to the Tonnara of Favignana, one of the largest in the Mediterranean.

Where to embark on a boat tour in Favignana

Boat tours to Favignana depart mainly from the ports of Trapani and Marsala. It takes 30 to 40 minutes of sailing time to reach the island’s shores, depending on the boat and weather conditions. Tours of the Egadi Islands also depart directly from Favignana, but in any case you have to reach the island’s port by ferry from Trapani or Marsala.

Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo

Levanzo and Marettimo are the other two islands of the Egadi archipelago. The former can be reached by a 20-minute boat ride from Favignana. Many tours include a stop at Levanzo and at the most beautiful coves such as Cala Fredda, Cala Minnola and Cala Faraglione.

Marettimo is the smallest and wildest of the Egadi Islands. It is quite far from the other two and requires almost two hours of sailing from Favignana. Being the most remote, this island has a special charm and is perfect for those seeking the utmost tranquility and wanting to keep off the beaten track of mass tourism.

Boat tour to Favignana: how much does it cost?

The price for a boat tour to Favignana depends on the type of boat and services included. For example, a day trip departing from Trapani costs 50 to 80 euros per person. In some cases, lunch on board or an aperitif of typical products is included.

Rates increase when it comes to private tours. Renting a sailboat for exclusive use costs 600 to 800 euros, depending on the period. Usually, private boats with skipper are reserved for small groups of 2 to 10 passengers.

Egadi Islands by sailboat: an unforgettable gift

A sailing trip to the Egadi Islands can be a perfect gift to celebrate an important occasion or to make your vacation in Sicily special. The lush nature of these islands, the beautiful coast and the sparkling colors of the water will be the setting of a wonderful day at sea in one of the most fascinating corners of the Mediterranean.

19 Oct 2024 | Dinghy day tour in Favignana and Levanzo with aperitif

Super recommended activity!

Wonderful day out and about in the beautiful Egadi Islands. Unforgettable aperitifs in the beautiful bays, nice swims, great music! The two-hour break ashore in Favignana allowed us to rent a bike and see it from a different perspective! The young captain was very nice and professional! Thank you!

Beautiful excursion, nice dive in the Cala Azzurra, although few people dared to jump in the water. In Favignana, it is worth taking the little train (€8) to get a nice tour of the island.

22 Sep 2024 | Excursion on Shalimar IV yacht with snorkelling in Favignana and Levanzo

Beautiful day with a very helpful crew

I chose the excursion with the Shalimar because I realised that the number of passengers allowed in relation to the size of the boat would be fairly comfortable. The prediction was confirmed, the excursion was comfortable for the space available and the boat held up well to the sea despite the strong headwind on the return to Palermo. The crew was very kind and patient (they waited for us on departure despite our delay).

14 Aug 2024 | Excursion on Shalimar IV yacht with snorkelling in Favignana and Levanzo

Beautiful experience

I spent an unforgettable day on a boat with my girlfriend exploring the beautiful islands of Favignana and Levanzo, a true oasis of beauty and tranquillity. Despite the muggy August heat, the numerous stops for swimming made the experience pleasant and refreshing. Every dip in those crystal-clear waters was a relief and an opportunity to admire the unspoilt nature that surrounded us. The staff on board were exceptional: kind, attentive and always ready to meet our every need. An example of their kindness was when, despite the fact that access to the inside cabin was not allowed, they promptly reached into our backpacks to allow us to retrieve what we needed. A gesture which, although simple, made all the difference to the quality of service. Lunch on board lived up to expectations: a delicious starter followed by a hearty main course, all accompanied by fresh fruit, wine and water. It was a simple meal, but perfectly in keeping with the relaxed and familiar atmosphere of the day. If I had to find one small area for improvement, I would say that the stop in Favignana, from 12.45pm to 3.30pm, could be inefficient for those wishing to explore the island, especially considering that many nearby tourist attractions are closed during that time. However, with a little adaptation, one can make use of the time between a rejuvenating swim and a refreshing granita. The end of the day at Cala Rossa was simply spectacular. The transparent waters and the breathtaking panorama crowned a perfect day, leaving me with the desire to repeat this wonderful experience as soon as possible.
