Snowshoeing in Bardonecchia: discovering wonderful snowy landscapes
The Bardonecchia ski area consists of no less than three ski areas – Colomion-Les Arnauds, Melezet, and Jafferau – and 20 lifts to get from one point to another. Within this true snow kingdom, there are marked routes reserved for snowshoeing. From 2-hour tours to full-day tours, everyone can find the most suitable hike and experience the mountain from a new perspective.
The first piece of advice for anyone wishing to hike in the snow is to be accompanied by a mountain guide, especially on routes off the beaten trails, where there might be an avalanche risk.
Snowshoeing in Bardonecchia: the best snowshoeing trails
Several easy trails that are also suitable for children start from Camp Smith. These are routes with little elevation gain, which are completed in about 2 hours and lead to Pian del Sole or Pian del Colle. More strenuous hikes, but still requiring no special physical skills other than a fair propensity for walking, are the Grange della Rho and the Jafferau snowshoe hike, departing from the cable car of the same name.
Guided snowshoeing: how much does an organized hike cost?
For an organized snowshoe hike, the price varies depending on the duration. These range from 20€ per person for an easy 2-hour snowshoe hike to 38€ per person for a full-day trip. Rates include snowshoes, sticks and accompaniment by a Mountain Guide.
