The largest ski center in Trentino is the one consisting of the resorts of Madonna di Campiglio, Pinzolo, Folgarida, and Marileva, which in total offer 150 km of slopes. On the border with Lombardy there is the Ponte di Legno / Passo del Tonale ski area, with 100 km total of slopes and nearly 2,000 m of elevation gain.
Between the Brenta Dolomites and Adamello Park, the renowned resort of Andalo, at the foot of the Presanella massif, is worthy of mention. In the Fassa Valley we find Col Margherita and Passo San Pellegrino, while a few kilometers from Trento there is Monte Bondone.
Finally, Trentino-Alto Adige shares with Veneto the largest ski area in Italy – and among the largest in the world. This is the Dolomiti SuperSki which, on the Trentino side, includes Val Gardena, Alta Badia, Canazei, Arabba and Malga Ciapela, all connected by the world-famous Sellaronda route.
Learning to ski while playing and having fun: that is the purpose of children’s ski courses. All Trentino ski schools provide lessons and courses specifically for young children, which are based on a playful approach to help young children acquire the basics of skiing: balancing, proceeding downhill, changing direction and braking.
The focus on children is so high that in Trentino-Alto Adige a special quality label has been established divided into three bands (Gold, Silver and Bronze) and aimed at ski schools in the region that specialize in teaching younger children. The best age to start skiing is around age 5, but even earlier, as young as 3, it is possible to have children do small activities aimed at familiarizing themselves with the snow.
Private lessons are ideal for those who want to learn to ski under the constant attention of an instructor. A dedicated teacher can better and earlier understand the student’s strengths and weaknesses, calibrating lessons based on the level achieved and giving more targeted advice.
Private lessons can be conducted individually with a one-to-one approach, or in very small groups, up to a maximum of 4 people usually. The latter solution is ideal for friends or family members who are at the same level of preparation, with the possibility of saving money by sharing the cost of the private teacher.
The price of ski schools in Trentino-Alto Adige varies depending on the season and the type of course or lesson you want to take. To get an idea, a weekly group course (a 2-hour class every day from Monday to Friday) has an average price between €130/150.
To have a teacher fully available, prices increase, with average rates around €45 for a 1-hour private lesson. Buying a package of classes or booking by mini-groups usually entitles you to discounts and promotions.

01 Mar 2024 | Private skiing tour with ski instructor on the Sellaronda in the Dolomites
We thoroughly enjoyed our ski instructor Sebastiano and being able to see the expanse of skiing offered in the Dolomites. We have skied for many years, but we learned some new techniques too.
