The Fassa Valley is a valley in northeastern Trentino, surrounded by the Dolomites. In its territory, on the border with Veneto, is located the Marmolada, the mountain group that has the highest Dolomite peaks. Those who visit the Valley in winter cannot give up the pleasure of a snowshoe hike among snowy forests and pristine slopes.

The snowshoe hikes in the Fassa Valley are evocative, fun hikes that are suitable for everyone. You can walk nimbly on fresh snow, enveloped in the silence and muffled atmosphere of the mountains. The stop at a lodge is absolutely a must, to  warm up with a good drink or a typical Trentino dish.

The best snowshoeing routes and itineraries in the Fassa Valley

Many snowshoe trails in the Fassa Valley start in Canazei, one of the valley’s main towns, nestled between the Marmolada, Sassolungo and Sella Pass Dolomite groups. From here you can snowshoe to the Pordoi Pass and reach an authentic panoramic terrace over the Trentino Dolomites.

Other routes at the foot of Marmolada, known as the “Queen of the Dolomites,” lead to Sella Pass, Fedaia Pass and San Pellegrino Pass. They are all characterized by wide alpine pastures and breathtaking views of UNESCO World Heritage mountains.

Val di Fassa: night snowshoeing and dinner at a mountain hut

Those who want to combine the fun of a walk in the snow with a delicious meal can take the opportunity to stop at one of the many mountain lodges and taste typical mountain dishes. Many organized snowshoe hikes in the Fassa Valley also include lunch at a mountain lodge. And there is also the possibility of sunset snowshoeing with aperitif or night snowshoeing with dinner.

Organized snowshoe hikes: how much do they cost?

Snowshoeing in Canazei or other locations in the Fassa Valley costs around 35 euros per person for a 3-hour hike. Snowshoeing with lunch or dinner included costs 50 to 65 euros per person. Snowshoes, sticks and Mountain Guide are always included in the price.

26 Jan 2023 | Evening snowshoeing with aperitif in Val di Fassa

Beautiful but symbolic aperitif

Extremely impressive views and a very knowledgeable and friendly guide. The snowshoe hike started just before sunset and ended half an hour after nightfall (the part in the dark was illuminated by torchlight). Aperitif ok: choice of a glass of red, white or spritz (I don't think so, but I'm not sure) + a noodle with five/six samples. Tasty but perhaps a little on the small side (for the cost of the experience, not in absolute terms). Overall, the experience was satisfying.

snowshoeing in the snow

My companion and I entrusted Freedome with a snowshoeing trip in Trentino. punctuality OK guide OK knew how to manage the heterogeneous group in terms of age and 'physicality', managing the breaks very well and entertaining the participants with very interesting naturalistic and cultural notions. the snow finally arrived and was our walking companion. i would do it again soon ( if i didn't live far away ) Franco

Beautiful snowshoeing in the snowy forest

My girlfriend and I went snowshoeing in the area around Canazei booked through freedome. We had a great time, the guide was knowledgeable and friendly, explained many interesting things and made us spend about 3 hours in a different way than usual, in the midst of snowy woods and traces of wolves (which we fortunately did not encounter, nor bears 😂)

Great experience!

It was a great experience, I recommend it to anyone who loves the mountains! Unfortunately there wasn't enough snow to go up by snowmobile, but even walking the whole way through the forest was exciting. A special thanks to our guide (Tommaso) who was very kind and helpful, really a nice person as well as a serious professional.

Peace in immaculate nature

A wonderful experience with a mountain guide, Mario, of a unique calmness and kindness! He tried to make us understand the importance of being aware when snowshoeing and told us some nice trivia about those experiences. Well done indeed! Val Duron then, as the place chosen for this experience, is truly magical! Thank you!

Fantastic experience

This is the first time I've had a more sensational experience than what I read in the reviews, very nice and knowledgeable instructors, the walk was indescribable, with the clear sky the stars were a wonder, too bad we couldn't return with the toboggan because it was too cold. I recommend it to everyone
