The Valmalenco is a side valley of the Valtellina, in the province of Sondrio. Surrounded by the highest peaks of the Rhaetian Alps and from the Bernina Massif, this valley is a true paradise for lovers of winter activities and for those seeking the peace and silence that only snow can provide. Snowshoeing in Valmalenco allow you to take refuge in a quiet and muffled dimension, where the sharp contours of the mountains and the roar of footsteps in the fresh snow reign supreme.

Valmalenco: the best routes to snowshoe on
The main towns of Valmalenco, Lanzada and Chiesa in Valmalenco, are ideal starting points for snowshoeing. Among the most popular routes suitable for everyone is the one leading to Lake Palù. You can then reach the many refuges in Valmalenco, such as the Zoia Lodge, or walk the 3 Lodges Tour of Pizzo Scalino.
Among the options for snowshoeing in Lombardy, Valmalenco is certainly a destination to consider, especially for those who like to get off the beaten track and discover places with authentic charm. Snowshoeing is an activity for everyone, also suitable for families with children to experience fantastic carefree moments in the snow!
Snowshoe hikes to Lake Palü and Zoia Lodge
Lake Palù in Valmalenco is one of the most famous alpine lakes in Lombardy. Reaching it by snowshoeing is an exciting adventure that provides fabulous winter views. Starting from Chiesa in Valmalenco or other locations in the valley, there are several routes to get there. The easiest to do even on snowshoes is the Lake Palù loop, which starts from the hamlet of San Giuseppe.
Among the best snowshoeing in Valmalenco is the hike from Lanzada to the Zoia Lodge. Again, this is a loop trail with little elevation gain, so it is suitable for everyone. The route can also be walked with an Alpine Guide at sunset or by snowshoeing at night. By moonlight, the experience will be even more atmospheric.
Organized snowshoe hikes: how much do they cost in Valmalenco?
On average, you do not spend much to go snowshoeing, considering that the cost of snowshoe and stick rental is around 10€ per person. This is different if you want to go on an organized snowshoeing hike led by a mountain guide (a recommended choice in order to remain safe at all times). To get an idea, a night or sunset snowshoe hike in Valmalenco at the Zoia Lodge costs €35 per person, including equipment.

All very nice....
Everything very nice. First experience but very positive. Excursion suitable for everyone, even children. We were fortunate to find a beautiful day, almost full moon to illuminate the path without the use of headlamps, Ivan spectacular guide, well prepared and attentive, which in addition to guiding us gave us some notions a bit about everything. We spent a pleasant evening with a very good dinner in a place recommended by the guide. Excursion from 10 for everything. Well done, good organisation

Carefree snowshoeing
We participated in the 'snowshoe hike in Valmalenco with dinner at the refuge and return under the stars' experience. Gionata is an expert guide who knows how to make the most of his love for nature and pass it on to those who participate in the activities he proposes, all in the company of his talented and faithful dog Shadow. It was a moment of collective relaxation and joy, a snowshoe hike in company for a few carefree hours.
