Rafting is one of the most popular river sports enjoyed by outdoor enthusiasts. It consists of descending a mountain river through rapids and other natural obstacles. Aboard the rafts, the crew captained by an experienced guide step follows the river current with the help of a paddle.
There is no need for special skills or experience – anyone can go rafting. All you need is a good relationship with water and a lot of willingness to have fun. Before setting off, the guides hold a preparation briefing to teach you how to use the paddle.
Rafting clothing consists of wetsuit, helmet and water jacket and is provided by the center. You need to wear a bathing suit, thermal shirt and sneakers you’re fine with getting wet.
Sesia rafting: discover the best locations for your adventure
One of the main locations for rafting in Valsesia is Balmuccia, in the province of Vercelli. But rafting centers can also be found in other municipalities in the valley such as Vocca, Varallo and Scopello. All river activities such as rafting, canyoning and hydrospeedcan be practiced here.
Classic rafting is practiced along the stretch from Balmuccia to Varallo. It is a 10-kilometer route with many adrenaline-pumping but not dangerous rapids. The stretch between Muro and Balmuccia is known as the Sesia Gorge, because here the river flows between narrow rock walls that create fun water features.
Also in the vicinity of Balmuccia in Valsesia , there are soft-rafting routes suitable for children and novices and more challenging routes that can be practiced only under special hydrometric conditions.

An extraordinary experience on the River Sesia in a mini-raft for two people. The place is magnificent and the day favoured us. Our instructor was helpful and very good... the real challenge for our first mini-raft outing was coordinating and communicating as well as doing the manoeuvres. Really an exciting afternoon
