Rafting: what you need to know before praticing it
Rafting is a team water sport practiced on special boats, the rafts, and involves descending the course of a river or mountain stream. On board each raft, there’s a rafting guide who gives commands to the group. Thus, the crew guides the raft down the river overcoming rapids and other natural obstacles.
First things first, you have to wear the wetsuit and the rest of the equipment. After reaching the embarkation point, the guide holds a technical briefing on paddle use. The trails are always fun and scenic and alternate between quiet and dynamic stretches. Finally, you return to the base of the rafting center, where you can often stay and enjoy some relaxing time.
A rafting trip in Umbria can last from 1 to 2 hours, and depending on your level, you can choose the route that best suits your needs. Usually, rafting is done from April to October, when the river flow is optimal.
Rafting in Norcia in Valnerina: the best trips on the Corno River
The Valnerina offers rafting trips on the Corno River and the Nera River, suitable for all levels. Starting from Serravalle di Norcia, you can get as far as the spectacular Biselli Gorges, imposing rock walls overhanging the river that offer a truly stunning natural scenery.
Both the Corno and the Nera River have sections that can also be navigated by families with children aged 3 and up. For soft-rafting trips, which are shorter and quieter than a classic route, you can start from Scheggino or Vallo di Nera, half an hour from Norcia.

Excellent guides, but the service could be better
Efficient and friendly online service.nThe rafting guides are knowledgeable and very friendly; I can say without a doubt that they’re the highlight of the place.nAs for the payment process, it wasn’t the best: the lack of a card terminal wasn’t mentioned, the service in the office was questionable (not very welcoming, but rather perfunctory) and the facilities weren’t up to scratch (shared changing rooms that offer little privacy).nThe experience itself was excellent; unfortunately, the issues listed above detracted from the two main strengths of the activity: the specialist (and always helpful) staff and the entire river route with its accompanying ‘extra’ activities (such as jumping into the river without the raft).
