Canyoning: everything you need to know about this water sport
Canyoning, also called canyoneering, is an exploratory practice of mountain river environments. It consists of walking along the course of streams and overcoming various natural obstacles along the way. While canyoning you dive, jump, swim and use ropes and harnesses to rappel down rock walls. That is why it is often referred to as a mix of mountaineering and river sports.
Canyoning can be practiced at all levels and ages. In fact, almost all the streams have trails that are also suitable for beginners and families with children. You are always accompanied by mountain guides who give participants all the support they need. A briefing is held before departure to learn progression techniques and safety rules.
Canyoning is practiced from April to October in favorable weather conditions. You need to wear a swimsuit, thermal shirt and hiking shoes. The wetsuit and all the technical equipment are provided by the guides.
Canyoning Trentino: all the places to practice it
Trentino is rich in places where canyoning can be practiced. In Val di Ledro, near Riva del Garda, the Rio Nero and the Palvico Stream offer trails of all types, from challenging to easy and practicable even for families with children.
In Val di Sole, in the Brenta Dolomites, the San Biagio canyon and the gorges of the Novella Stream are the most striking routes. While for going canyoning in Non Valley, Rio Sass is the best choice.

Thrilling!
Extraordinary experience: natural landscape to get involved in and have fun in; all perfectly managed by our charismatic guide Andrea, professional and very friendly! I wouldn't consider it suitable for just anyone, but if you love thrills (in every sense 😂), adrenaline and unforgettable views, you absolutely must try it at least once in your life!

Challenging route for beginners
This was our third time we went canyoning in Italy. First time was in Sicily, second in Tuscany, and now in Trentino. This was by far the most challenging. The hike at the beginning was a little harder than we expected. It was quite steep and long. With the wetsuit on, it’s the least enjoyable. The route down was beautiful. High jumps or abseil routes (you can choose). Not many slides. Personally I wouldn’t recommmend this route as a first time experience. We were with a family that went for the first time, but they thought it was a little too challenging. Overall it’s a great experience but you need good stamina for the walk at the beginning. One thing that was a pity, was that the gopro we rented did not work (the sd card failed). Of course we didn’t have to pay. But still it’s a pity we couldn’t take any pictures or shoot any film.

Experience to make
Great canyoning experience! It was the first time I had tried this activity and I was thrilled. The three hours flew by, so much so that at the end I wished it would have lasted even longer. The mountain guide Roberto was impeccable: prepared, attentive and with an infectious friendliness that made the route even more enjoyable. We were a small group of five and we enjoyed ourselves step by step, sharing emotions and adrenalin. Highly recommended for those who want to experience a unique and safe adventure in a spectacular environment!
