Everything you need to know about canyoning
Canyoning, or canyoneering, is an exploratory practice of river environments. It consists of walking on foot along the winding course of streams flowing between canyons and rocky gorges. A canyoning trail has characteristic elements, including toboggans, natural slides created by the erosion of water on rock. Also typical of canyoning are diving into pools of water and rappelling down waterfalls and rock walls. Each canyoning experience includes the support of an experienced and certified guide who will be able to help participants at all times, ensuring total safety.
Where to go canyoning in Tuscany
Among the most suitable locations for canyoning in Tuscany is Bagni di Lucca, in Garfagnana. Here, you’ll be able to explore the beautiful blue lagoon of the Lima Creek; that is, a natural pool with an intense color due to the reflection of light in the crystal clear water. Canyoning trails in Bagni di Lucca offer spectacular scenery, are also suitable for children and are among the best canyoning options in Italy.
Between the Apuan Alps and the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, there are other picturesque trails such as the Serra River and the Bagnone stream in Lunigiana. In the province of Prato, you can go canyoning on the Rio Buti or at the Fonte Buia cave.
Canyoning on the Rio Selvano
Among the canyoning trails in Lucca, the Rio Selvano deserves an honorary mention because, in addition to being extremely impressive, it is considered by many the most complete canyoning trail in Tuscany. It requires 3 hours of activity and presents all the typical elements of canyoning. This is also located in Bagni di Lucca.
How much does it cost to go canyoning in Tuscany?
To go canyoning in Tuscany you spend 35 to 75 euros. The price varies depending on the location, duration and difficulty of the trail and always includes the necessary equipment.

Spirit of adventure ON.
A lovely experience – fun and refreshing in such hot weather. I’d recommend wearing contact lenses rather than glasses, as they can fog up. A high level of concentration and cooperation is required.

Adventure in the cave
We explored the cave in July with Mauro, a really attentive and helpful guide who provided us with everything we needed and made the experience both interesting and fun! The excursion involves exploring the various chambers of the cave, including passages through tunnels and dips in underground pools, so you’ll need a bit of a sense of adventure. It’s best to wear suitable footwear and be prepared to get completely wet! Suitable for the whole family – we had three teenage children with us who were absolutely thrilled!

Jumping, swimming, getting carried away
Jumping into the water, swimming, being swept away… it was an exciting two hours. Even if you can’t swim, it’s fine for children too. The guide was also very kind. When I contacted the staff at the tour company about the lack of a bus to the meeting point, they kindly arranged a pick-up and drop-off for us, which was a great help. Thank you very much.nnJumping into the water, swimming, being carried along... it was an exciting two hours. Even if you can’t swim, it’s fine for children too. The guide was also very kind.
