Rafting in Piedmont: what you need to know
Rafting is a team sport that is practiced aboard a special raft, and involves descending a river by overcoming rapids, the river’s current and other natural obstacles. Before setting off, instructors always hold a briefing to teach you how to use the paddle and safety regulations.
Once on board, the crew, of about 8 people per raft, follows the guide’s commands and cooperates in guiding the raft by paddling. There are also smaller inflatable boats, mini rafts, that can fin only two people. Rafting is also a suitable activity for children and families, as it’s possible to choose routes of different difficulty. The best times to practice it are spring and summer.
Rafting in Valsesia and other places to pratice it
The Sesia River is one of the major rivers in the Piedmont region. It originates from Mount Rosa, flows for 140 km and is a true paradise for lovers of rafting and other water disciplines such as canyoning or hydrospeed. With its rocky gorges and adrenaline-fueled rapids, the Sesia is ready to thrill even those getting on the raft for the first time.
Balmuccia and Vocca, in the province of Vercelli, are among the best-known locations for rafting in Valsesia. Those who want to venture on the Stura di Demonte River, however, can start from Gaiola, in the province of Cuneo. Both locations are less than 2 hours away from Turin.
Rafting trips in Piedmont for children and families
Piedmont offers numerous rafting trips that are also suitable for children and families, undemanding but very exciting. On the Sesia in particular, children will be able to have fun in complete safety. Aboard the raft they will discover a discipline that enhances team spirit, self-confidence and relationship with the environment.
Carrying out outdoor activities is one of the best ways to spend some free time. Being in contact with nature takes away stress and allows you to recharge your energy. A rafting experience is a good idea to spend a weekend with family or friends, in a particular way.

Exciting, to be done at least once in a lifetime!
Everyone should have this experience at least once! We went on a family outing, divided into two rubber dinghies, and were accompanied by a team of young and empathetic instructors who, when they realised we were willing to jump in the water, play, but also quietly admire the wonder of nature in the calmer stretches of the river, went along with us. Everything always took place in total safety. Rescue simulations, dives, drifting.... We couldn't pass up the videos they took of us with the GoPro. A special thank you to Paolo, the contact person for this fantastic experience, for his exquisite kindness, and a big hug also to Wako and Nacho (is that how you write it?) who guided us skilfully on the descent; very good, very nice and very well prepared. We hope to see you again and thanks again for everything!!!!
