With its 633 km of coastline and its many islands, Tuscany offers so many possibilities to those who wish to set off on a boat tour. From the Argentario, through the Maremma, and again to the Tuscan Archipelago, this region is a continuous source of surprises. With its variety and richness, it manages to please sea adventurers, mountain enthusiasts and lovers of art cities alike.
The Elba Island and the Giglio Island are among the most popular destinations for boat tours. On the other hand, those looking for less touristy destinations can visit the islands of Montecristo and Capraia, where nature reigns almost completely untouched.
In addition to the islands of Tuscany, you can take wonderful sailing tours along the coast of Grosseto e Livorno, all the way to the Cinque Terre. All you need to do is choose the port of departure and your preferred itinerary. The colors of the sea and nature, the postcard landscapes and the good Tuscan cuisine will truly make the experience special.

Tuscany boat tours: guide of the islands
When it comes to boat tours in Tuscany, one can only start with the islands. With seven major islands, three minor islands and dozens of reefs and islets, the Tuscan Archipelago is a popular destination for adventure-seekers. Difficult to visit in a day, the Tuscan Archipelago requires at least a weekend to be enjoyed to the fullest.
Elba Island is the most well-known tourist destination, followed by Giglio Island, and needs no introduction. Its smaller and more remote sisters such as the islands of Gorgona, Pianosa, Giannutri, Montecristo and Capraia are less well known but equally fascinating.
Gorgona is the smallest and northernmost island. Since it is the site of a prison, boat tours prohibited and it can only be visited in the company of licensed tour guides. Capraia is an island of volcanic origin, very rich in vegetation and also rare endemic species. Pianosa is completely uninhabited and can receive a limited number of tourists to preserve the special ecosystem.
Montecristo Island is the most fascinating and legendary, not only because it is the setting of Alexandre Dumas’ famous novel, The Count of Monte Cristo, but also because it is a protected area with severe restrictions on tourism. Finally, Giannutri Island is the southernmost island and is of particular interest to scuba divers, as are Pianosa and Elba.
A boat tour to discover Argentario
Argentario is one of the best destinations for full-day boat tours. It is a promontory in the Maremma region of Grosseto, is a popular tourist destination and is an internationally important center for sailing and yachting. Orbetello, Porto Ercole and Porto Santo Stefano are all must-see Argentario resorts.
For a boat tour of Argentario, you can start from Porto Santo Stefano and sail all around the promontory until you reach Porto Ercole, on the opposite end. The coastline offers wonderful inlets, bays and hidden coves, accessible only by sea. Just remember to bring a mask, fins and snorkel to swim in the crystal clear waters and admire in the marine wildlife.
Tuscany: how much does a boat tour cost?
The price for a boat tour in Tuscany depends on the itinerary, duration, and type of boat. For example, a full-day trip to Argentario costs 60 euros per person, with lunch and open bar included.
Of course, there are options for all tastes and budgets: boat trips with lunch or dinner, sunset tours with aperitifs, weekend mini-cruises, week-long sailing vacations, and full tours of the Tuscan Archipelago and the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Boat tours in Tuscany: the perfect gift for sea lovers
A boat trip is a welcome gift for everyone: you relax, visit dreamy places, enjoy the sea breeze, swim and sunbathe away from crowded shores. Who wouldn’t like that? So, for a loved one’s next birthday, you can consider gifting a day out at sea in the Argentario or Elba Island, perhaps opting for an aperitif or lunch option to make the experience even more complete.
Lovers of extravagant ideas may choose a weekend-long sailing tour or a mini-cruise in the Tuscan Archipelago National Park as a wedding gift or perhaps to celebrate an anniversary or bachelor/bachelorette party in a very special way.

A must-see day trip
A fantastic experience – seeing the sea around Elba from a different perspective. A comfortable boat; it was very easy to get on and off for a swim offshore. The staff were helpful and gave us loads of insider tips about the island. A lovely afternoon.

A lovely day at the seaside!
The boat tour around Elba was a wonderful way to see the island, a welcome alternative to driving as the roads are narrow and winding. There were four stops along the way for a refreshing swim near the boat. Many passengers took part. I was pleasantly surprised to see goggles available for passengers to borrow to get a better view of the small schools of fish. I spotted only one or two varieties, but it was enjoyable. The captain provided a good description of various sights along the shore, but unfortunately, we do not speak Italian. Occasionally he made an attempt to say a few words in English, but this was very limited. Sometimes a pre-recorded commentary explaining a feature of the island followed in English and German, but this too was limited. A leaflet or some other method of sharing information would be helpful. We would still recommend this beautiful and comfortable boat tour around Elba.

An unforgettable hike
The excursion was simply marvellous. Apart from the sea, the guide deserves special praise: he was knowledgeable, excellent at explaining the local marine biology, friendly and extremely attentive to the participants’ safety.

An unforgettable experience. Luciano and Ruggero are brilliant! The organisation, the spirit, the sense of belonging, the perfect stops for a swim and that wonderful feeling of being at home. You can really sense their experience and professionalism from start to finish. And, to top it all off, they asked us if we’d all be up for extending the trip for a whale-watching spot and… we actually saw dolphins. Well done and thank you for everything. We’ll be back soon.
